Central Mandurah is the vibrant centre of Mandurah City. The suburb’s area is encompassed by the Mandurah Foreshore, Pinjarra Road and Mandurah Road. Mandurah was originally named ‘Mandjar’ (meeting place) by the Noongar people, was later established as a small fishing village and them became a popular tourist destination. Its idyllic water based lifestyle has let to it becoming a thriving city. The waterways are well known for their abundance of marine wildlife including dolphins, crabs, fish and pelicans. The central meeting place of Mandurah would have to be the Mandurah Foreshore with its bustling cafe / restaurant strip along with many other tourist attractions such as the Old Mandurah Bridge, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre and Mandurah Ocean Marina. Mandurah Foreshore is also host to Mandurah’s most iconic annual festival – Crabfest. Many of the older style homes in Central Mandurah are now being developed into higher density unit style accommodation or commercial business properties.
